Creative Lifelong Learning

The Creative Lifelong Learning (CLL) mission is to inspire learning that enhances the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of citizens in our community with a vision of fostering optimism and hope through diverse education and positive social interaction. The CLL program is modeled after the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Duke and N.C. State Universities, as well as other Triangle-area senior center programming. It is funded through a generous endowment and by annual memberships, class fees, and donations.

Membership
A non-refundable annual membership fee payable to the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford covers classes for one year. Membership is open to any senior adult, 50 or older, from Granville County or surrounding counties. Non-senior adults may register at the discretion of the coordinator and Center Director.

Classes and Registration
Most classes are held during regular business hours at the Granville County Senior Center in Oxford located at 107 Lanier Street. Occasional night and weekend opportunities are offered based upon demand and instructor request. Classes range from a one hour lecture to a series of lectures, and may involve overnight trips.

If new to the CLL program, you must call the Center to register and receive your personal key tag. If you are a member of CLL or attend other classes at the Granville County Center, you should have a key tag that has a number on the back of the tag. (see picture below) Use that number to register for classes online at MyActiveCenter – a free service from MySeniorCenter or by calling the Granville County Center at (919) 693-1930.

Fees and Scholarships
Most classes are either free or based on supply cost. All fees are due at the time of registration or as advertised.

When joining CLL for the first time, you should pay in person to receive a key tag to use when / if you register online and then afterwards when you attend classes. To make online payments for CLL renewal or registration, please click here. Please note you will be charged a convenience fee by the service provider, not the county.

Classes cancelled by the CLL Coordinator will be credited or fully refunded. Trip registrations are not refundable unless there is someone on the waitlist that can take the vacant seat.

A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. If you need financial help to join or attend CLL classes, contact Senior Services Director Kathy May, (kathy.may@granvillecounty.org) or CLL Coordinator Russ Barberio, (russ.barberio@granvillecounty.org) at (919) 693-1930 for an application. All requests are confidential.

Instructors
Anyone with expertise in a topic or a passion on a subject matter that may be of interest to others, may qualify to teach a class. Classes can range from one hour on a specific day or extend for up to 11 weeks. Instructors can choose the day, the time, and the session that best suits their needs and the Center’s schedule and room availability.
